whats happening out there?

Well this saturday is most likely going to be my last day out bass fishing . With college taking up my week days and bowhunting coming up, that will consume all my weekends. I havent been out bass fishing much sense late july because i broke my hand so that put an end to august fishing for me. Now the hand feels good and i want to give it one last go. Just curious as to were people are finding the fish as of now? i have the lake picked out, one that i havent fished all year, and need some ideas of what depth to start at. thanks guys.

dosent matter what lake. what temp is the water? are the frogs migrating yet? If so you cant beat topwater this time of year for some pigs. thank you for being a hunter. you will not be on the lake distracting me from the couple of biggest fish of my life!

not sure what the water temp is or if the frogs are migrating since i havent been out since july like i said... thats why im asking.. cause im not sure whats been going on since fishing hasnt been an option for me.

Its really going to depend lake to lake. Or at least thats what I have seen. While I too am an ultra avid bow hunter, I still do a pretty good job of dividing my time between fall fishing and hunting.

I would start shallow first, look for active fish. Run fast moving baits and see if you can muster up a bite or two. If that doesnt work, start probing deep rock.. if that doesnt work.. go back to shore and practice a nice clean kill at 40 yards with the bow.

[note to all, I have not and probably will not shoot a deer with a bow at 40 yards.. but I practice out to 100 yards often.]

[2nd note.. LOL.. I lied.. I shot and harvested a doe on the last day of bow season 15 years ago with a bow at 75 yards.. she was already hit and on her way out, but he sun wa setting and I had a clean hot at her..]

I was out on Gull Lake up here in Brainerd this evening and the surface water temp was 71 degrees. We are still several weeks away from turnover. Very calm days with bright sun has actually warmed the surface water the past few days. Frogs are not migrating as of yet.

I would fish shallow during the low light hours (morning and evening) using surface lures. Deep edges during the day especially with hard bottom close to deep water. Clean rocks are best.

We are moving into the time of the year when the big bass get really active. Great time of the year.

not going to lie 75 yards is a darn nice poke there Deitz! i try to keep it 30 yards or closer although im starting to get pretty confident at 40 . Thanks for the suggestions the lake im fishing is at max 28 feet deep so im really gonna try and find some shallow fish since thats what i do best. maybe hit some points/ humps and deeper timber if shallow dont work. again thanks guys for the info.

It's been an interesting past couple weeks. Shallow one day and deep weedline the next. Yup that's right I tried to fish deep for once.
