What has been the flathead bait of choice as of lately?

I've been targeting flatheads and fishing purely with 5-7" bullheads the past month. I've been noticing more and more flats being caught with the use of cut bait recently. Is this a function of seasonality? I'm usually a cut bait guy during the early evening hours for channels, but it seems several nice flatcats have been caught with the use of cut bait lately. I'm planning on going out day and night this Sunday and looking for a little advice. What's everyone using????

I would recommend bringing as much variety as you can. Bring some Suckers and Chubs...try both cut and live bait...maybe even find some frogs.

my last two outing I have only caught flatties on chubs and nothing on bullies I did get one on a live sucker. I havent really tried cut for flats but I am always ready to try something to change it up. frogs have been poppin c-cats for me but I know that flats will crunch them just as fast as a c-cat if its in the right place just like the other baits. If your baits not in the right place it wont produce. But we all know that

I like when you let us know that you are on the river. Gives me a heads up there might be bright orange objects flying at me... I might have to dig a fox hole on my usual spot in case you and john are out together

I just got this girl tonight on a pig of a sucker minnow she went 46" and my first flathead ever. she had a HUGE scar across her back from something i assume to be a prop. but it was nice watching her swim away, in case your wondering, yes thats a tape across her head. it turned to to be to reflective to see any numbers much to my disapointment

Seems to me there's quiet a variety of big fish being caught on several baits. I normally shy away from suckers. Luckily creek chubs have been doing me well.

I like your signature. My neighbors dog broke free of the invisible fence a couple months back and raided my garage and ate a whole container of stink bait I have had sitting around for a couple years. She ate it plastic and all. It came up later plastic and all as well. Ever since that episode she wont come in my garage. Must not have been a pleasant experience for the dog!

ty and yes she took some time before she was ready. and my signature is due to my last dog and her overwhelming need to eat stinkbait i used to use for small cats that went to the smoker. she ate 3 tubs over time lil monster

Absolutly SHAD! If you can get it live even better! Use a little lighter gear and it makes it an insane ride! You wont beleive how good live shad can be. Try it you'll like it!!
