Bear hides

just wondering what you guys do with your hides if you can't afford to have a mount done?if i am lucky enough to tag one this year i just plan on keeping the skull and maybe the claws.do taxidermists usually buy these?or is there a market for them that i am not aware of?i would love to get some kind of mount done,but i got laid off a few months ago and just can't afford it at this time and don't want to waste it.

Just get the hide tanned and do something with it later after you get back to work.

Superbee nailed it. Once tanned, you can keep it and wait until you have the funds for a rug or live mount.

A shoulder mount would look nice also and you would only need to have the hide from the front legs forward tanned.

If you were looking to have a rug made, get it tanned and you could hang it on the wall until you were ready to finish it.

There isn't much of a market for bear hides. I've ended up giving mine away to people who are starting taxidermy when I didn't want the hide.
