I edited your post to take out a "d" word you had towards the end.

I think the biggest trap that people get into, is that by the end of the summer, they're so tired of working on their yard / property they don't want to work on it anymore.

This is the most important time, whether reseeding, putting down the fall applications of fertilizer, or putting down a fall application of herbicide.

Sorry about the d word. I knew it was probably not allowed, but was used for emphasis. smirk It wont happen again.

And yes, you are correct about people being jus tired of battling them by the time they should start.

Thats why in my original post I mentioned out of sight, out of mind.

Hopefully, Ive provided enough background to at least get some to try a fall application. Ultimatly, if you are just starting a fall application, then you should hit it as often as you typically do in the summer the first year. That takes care of all of the overwintered ,adult plants, and then a fall application will take out the new germinations.. The problem with the fall application, is that as you stand out on your yard on that nice calm day in September, you think to yourself: I really should take a advantage of this nice day and spray my yard. Then, you gaze over it and think that it looks pretty darn good, I think Ill go fishing instead and then it never gets done. Ive done it myself and I always regret it next summer.

Thought I'd bring this conversation back to the top, just in case anyone was contemplating a fall broadleaf control. Its a pretty good read if you havent ever read it. I havent done mine yet, mainly because of a huge storm on July 18th that we lost 61 of my largest trees on the acreage. Ive reseeded just before labor day and the grass is coming nicely. I hope to get at least one day yet to get my fall application put down. Fertilizer is done.

here is the link to the MN Dept of AG. You can identify the type here and find out what the rules are for controlling. I know here in AZ it is against the law to have certain thistle on your property. It also gives some thought on controlling and when the best time to do it is.

Here is the MN Dept of AG list of noxious weeds.
