humming bird not working in shallow waters

i just picked up a humminbird 525 and when ever i am in 3.5 foot or less water the depth reading says like 8 or 0 it also jumps around in deeper waters when the graph says the bottom is flat... anyone else have problems like this??

Sounds like a bad transducer ---- if it was just the shallow water problem I'd also suggest checking the angle the transducer is mounted at, but if it jumps around in deep water then it's probably a bad transducer.

you may need the surpresser cable, they sent me one free of charge.. Mine did the same thing.

there is also alot of surface clutter.. i was told that is from all the algea.. could it be the water quality? the lake i mainly fish has a water clarity of 5 inches... i adjusted teh sensivity and that helped alot!
