Hang On, Up North, the Sparrows are on Their Way

Birdsong

Great unobstructed, eye level view of this beautiful sparrow. Typical environment for these guys, makes for a busy comp, but it's still a great image. I've heard catbird calls quite a bit recently but that's only because there is a starling or two in my neighborhood that have mastered that call and use it frequently smile

Oh, that's true--though I haven't heard a starling using it around here. I didn't see him though, and normally they come in here more with the wood and other thrushes than the robins. I do have them in the yard most of the season, though most noticably in spring and fall. With a property line in the middle of a small river, I live on a bit of a flyway, so get some unusual occurances.

Nice image, Birdsong. smile

If you're talking about catbird calls rather than catbird songs, I've heard blue jays make a version of a catbird call I couldn't tell apart from a catbird.

If you have a catbird in your yard in the middle of March, it'd be worth getting a pic to document it and e-mail the sighting and pic to the Minnesota Ornithologists Union.
