You can get the HDS-5 with GPS and Transducer for less $$$ at Pro Fishing Supply.

Lowrance Side Imaging is not a rumor, they issued a press release saying it was coming and that details would be released in July at the ICAST show. No date was given yet but they made it sounds like it was this year, and that it is a plug-in module or transducer that works with the new HDS units.

I have the opposite problem myself. It worked great in my boat last year. This year it wont lock or find the bottom any deeper then 8ft. I am really depressed. Maybe the transducer has gone bad over the winter? I do hear the variable clicking at the transducer when it is out of the water. Every spring its something different.....

I have the 522 on my boat and it works great!! However, if the battery gets low it shuts itself off.

I don't think this unit would be a good choice for ice fishing, but if you know how to set them up, they work awesome on the open water!!

I just mentioned in the open water forumn about a instructional video made by " Doc Samson". He shows you how to adjust these units to work properly.

Well worth the 30 bucks!!
