Reed Lake

Recommended Posts

Anyone else ever fish Reed? This will be my 5th year in a row going up and I'm getting pretty pumped. That doesnt even come close to my dad who will be going for 30 consecutive years this spring. Have heard a lot of stories about the lake and have seen a lot of big fish caught up there...

check the "google". Straight east of Flin Flon / Northwest of Lake Winnepeg.

Reed Lake was, probably still is a great lake, with alot of variety (shallow dark water, river/ current areas/ deep, clear humps/ rocky reefs/island,ect, ect.) I remember catching lakers, walleyes, huge northerns and whitefish, all on same day, and not really knowing what we were doing. Wish I could go back with my current arsenal and knowledge.

Also remember it as a potentially dangerous lake. Some real big water if you're not careful. We got caught out too far and had a slow, wet, 1/2 day ride back to camp after a gale blew in. 2 guys died the same day when there anchor got caught in the rocks and apparently swamped the boat in frigid, early spring water. Still remember the planes flying around for a couple days looking for them. This was before the days of cell phones and GPS's. If I could fish one lake for the rest of my life, that one would be high on my list.
