Got out on the river the other day and actually pulled in about 20 channels. The majority of them were keepers(2-4lbs.). This is an example of what we were catching.

I know where that is. That's the pond down by the levee. Were you fishing the inlet from the Wabash??

We used to sit down there....and we got into them once in a while.

Yep. We were fishing the river side. They were just biting left and right. Some other guys were fishing the pond, and were snagging huge asian carp out of there( 10-20lbs). Small world, isn't it ?

That's pretty sweet......600 miles away and I can still pick it out of a picture. Kind of surprising since I was usually under the influence when we were down there. We used to catch some really big soft shell turtles down there as well.

I have heard rumors of there being flatheads in the Wabash, but I am not sure they get up as far as West Lafayette....

It would be worth a shot to throw a big live bait or two in there and see if there are........

I might have to bring the jet boat down there next time I go to Indiana to explore a little. I always wanted to try the municipal wastewater discharge on the opposite side of the river from the levee and on the other side of county road 26. I couldn't find a way down there though.

Maybe Aanderud and DTRO would be up for a little road trip for educational research. It's only a 10 hour drive!

There are very nice flatheads in the wabash. I caught a 16 pounder last year. I also know a guy who caught a 23 lb. flathead from the spot you recognized. There are even stories of flatheads much bigger than that. Just last year a Purdue student caught a 67 lb. blue channel from the Wabash directly in front of downtown. And by the way, I catch softshell turtles from the spot you recognized all the time. Here is that flathead I caught last year not far from the spot.

I'll have to think on that one, John. The 500 mile drive to Lockport seems like it might be a better bet.
