Montego Bay, Jamaica Fishing

JimBuck

Recommended Posts

So my trip to Jamaica is coming up here in a few weeks and now that I've got the open water itch I would like to do some fishing down there from shore (with maybe one day of charter if were up for it). Anyone have any experience with the area? Any recommendations for general tackle and location would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I fish from the beach from florida.

I use my grandpa's gear, my brother and I use two nice heavy rods and two heavy reels. One conventional reel with a bait clicker and some heavy mono(not sure what lb test) and one big spinning reel with 30lb superbraid on it. We use 6 feet of 100lb test mono for leader, we run into small-medium sharks quite often.

The large reels are mostly for line capacity since I walk out past the first sandbar to cast another good distance, and usually have quite a bit of line out just waiting for something to come by to chomp my bait.

Fishing is mostly for snook, redfish, and shark using nice sized cutbait, usually ladyfish, on 9/0 to 12/0 circle hooks. I just use a 3 or 4 oz pyramid sinker to fish off the bottom.

I know it isn't jamaica, but that's a rig that can have good success just about any place beach fishing in salt water.
