Outdoor Wood Furnaces

Great way to go providing your boiler is big enough to carry the load. The more you have hooked to the boiler the more wood you are going to burn. I have mine to my forced air and in-floor in the basement. I no longer use it to heat my garage floor (1620 sq. ft.) and cut my wood consumption by about 40%. Went with off-peak electric boiler in the garage after two years of heating it at 45 degrees with wood. My boiler is rated to heat all my house and garage square footage and a bit more but when everything was calling for heat at the same time it was burning wide open to keep up.

Absolutely LOVE mine. water heater, forced air, out to the hanging heater in the garage before back out to the stove. Wood consumption definately depends on type of wood (oak vs. basswood) size of "logs" and temp outside. I'll usually check the stove in the morning and at night and depending on the temp. put some wood in.

I would have to think that your application would work out nicely. This is the 3rd winter with ours. Oh, the old man and a friend of the family put the same ones in that year as well and we all have the same opinion about them.

We love ours too but it's kind of hard to justify the cost unless you can get your wood fairly cheap. We go through 10 full cords a year and the price of oak is hitting the $90 per cord range.

One nice thing though, you can burn any kind of wood in them. We had a bunch of dry rotted pine laying around our property and burned that up in the fall before it got real cold.
