Rod building book

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone out there may be able to point me to a good beginers rod building book. its something ive been intrested in for some time and the wife threatened me with death if i bring home another loomis. My first rods id like to take on would be spin casting and then eventualy a new flyrod in the 8 or 9 weight area. I know thorne brothers has stuff its where i used to get my fly tying gear but more than once i've been treated rudely so i go elsewhere for my projects now.

UFG,

As far as books I would look at Dale P. Clemens Advanced Custom Rod Building. It covers the basics and gets in to more advanced.

There is also allot of info on the net(vid, pic, ext...)

For components check out Mid West Rod and Reel in Prior Lake.

They are some nice people that can set you up.

Tom Kirkman's book is the Bible for getting started in rod-building - not to say that Clemen's book is not good. Clemens book is titled "Advanced Rod Building" for a reason.

Get Tom Kirkman's Rod Building Guide.

There are many good books out there, all depends on what need to get from them. Flexcoat has a few books out too that will give you some starting tips.

There is also some pretty good rod builders here on this site that have been more than willing to share info. So feel free to ask away.
