Giving back

Recommended Posts

Just about everyone here knows how much I love to fish, so I want to tell you about my new venture. I have become a volunteer for "Let's Go Fishing With Seniors". They are a non profit group that has raised money to purchase pontoons/boats and take seniors from assisted living, nursing homes, and seniors who don't have access to boats fishing. My neighbor participated last summer and had a blast. I will be participating this year and will be taking a pontoon piloting class and first aid and CPR class. There are chapters all over the state. Just google their name and check it out.

Barb, some of the fishing club guys are part of this too aren't they? Working with elderly gentlemen where I work, I know MANY would love this! And after you're done taking that pontoon piloting class, you and Tami will both be running and gunning us gals around Mille Lacs in June! grin

Where is your campground Glenn? That is precisely why I will be taking the captain's piloting course. Actually we are not allowed to be a captain without taking the course. Safety first ya know.

we have a 5th wheel camper at old wagon campground on long lake between hawick and new london. about 20-25 miles east of willmar. its a 25 minute drive from our home. lake is clean and nice panfishing. then of course we have the cabin up north by spring lake, near north elementary school my mom owns.

They don't have a chapter down here in the metro. I emailed the general info email address to get on their list of potential volunteers. It sounds like a great organization allowing people to have great fun.

i have never seen them do more than pontoon rides, never fishin, although i really didnt pay much attention. so where will you go for your training, barb? i do know the pontoon is quite full when it does go out.

Not all the excursions are fishing, a lot of them are just pontoon rides around the lakes. Think about being confined to a nursing home all the time, this gives them a chance to get out and enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine. I am not sure how the training works yet, it is scheduled for sometime in May. I recently took over as Secretary for our chapter and I am also working on a web site for our individual chapter.
