jfish21
Hey all, looking for some advice. I have an older Yacht Club ('84?) roller trailer and a 16' Lund ('85) fishing boat. I am looking at adding some bunk style trailer guide-ons to the trailer to make it easier to load the boat when I am out fishing by myself. I have looked at Fleet Farm, Cabela's and Gander Mountain. If anyone has some recommendations on what way to go or ones to avoid, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any other recommendations on loading my boat with this style trailer when I am fishing by myself that is also appreciated. Basically now if it is windy, I just dont go...
DonBo
I got mine from the dealer where I bought my boat/trailer combo. I wouldn't hesitate to get one from FF or any other inexpensive box store. Just get one with some decent carpet to protect the boat and you should be good to go.Loading your boat with them? OMG! You will love it. Just get the front of the boat between the bunks and steer it in there till it's pretty well centered, give her a little gas and you're in! Only way to go, especially in the wind. fishorgolf
I agree with DonBo that bunks the way to go. I have always had roller trailer and it was OK but my current boat is a 20' glass with a bunk trailer and I can load it perfectly by myself every time in a couple minutes at most. They really bare slick.
tommyk
I also have a Yacht Club trailer. My trailer is quite a bit newer than yours, but I would give Yacht Club a call and see if the bunk guide-ons they sell after market would work on older trailers still. I ordered a pair after I bought my boat/trailer. They mounted using holes that were already pre drilled in the trailer frame by Yacht Club. Your trailer may or may not have those bolt holes. They were not any more expensive than getting a universally fitting pair from a store, and they obviously look like they belong on that trailer. Try this linkIf you browse through their online catalog to the accessories page, you can see what they look like.

moderation
What about the roller guide-ons? Will they guide a boat in the wind? Would they do less damage that the bunks do because they have less contact with the boat? Just wondering. I'm also looking for guides and I would like to get the best for loading and also not damage the boat while trailering.
Fishing Junky
After two seasons with bunk guide ons,(see avator)m I no longer have them on my trailer, as I now have paint worn on the sides of my boat. Didn't notice that untill the second year. Not sure what I'm gonna do now, as my boat hardly ever goes on straight. Junky....
