abu repair

Sent my 7000i RED in last month. Was sticking when trying to engage the spool to cast once in a while. When it would do that, the spool wouldn't engage again, handle just turned. Sent it in on Friday and I got a brand new reel back in the mail the next Wed. Sent in other reels before and had about a 3 day turn around from them. Extremely fast and good for me. Brother also had problems with his 7000C3, sent it in and they sent him back a new reel as well. Great service and once of the reasons that I stick with Garcia reels. Besides, I really like them as well!

Funny you asked. I got a bill from them in the mail today for $107. One reel is under warranty, and the other which is past warranty they said it would be more cost-effective if I just buy a new one. So, I guess the reel was unrepairable? I guess I will buy a new one?

I sent them 2 reels. One under warranty and one past warranty. The one under warranty will be replaced for free. The one past warranty (1.5 years old) they are saying is unrepairable and they are offering me the same reel new for $107.

Ouch, I see them once in awhile in the bargin box for around $50 same with the 7000I's Maybe time to try a different brand LOL. I ran a Okuma Induron all last season, did great for big rubber and a buddy used it for cowgirls some, he has his own now. For $120 the Okumas are a nice reel and their service is as good as Abu's.

If you find one for $50, please let me know. I know it is a little ridiculous to break a reel 3 times in one year, but I probably fish the same amount of days in a year that a lot of guys fish in 5 years. And a lot of my days on the water can go for 16-18 hours straight. I beat my equipment up good! In the end, all brands of reels will break when you are as hard on them as I am.

They are really fast. The only reason why it has taken this long is because they are waiting for me to pay the bill before they ship out the reel(s). I guarantee you once they get my bill it will be at my house within 2-3 days. They have always been good with that. This was just my first time trying to send in a reel with an expired warranty.

The reel is $99 and shipping is $8.

I'll look this weekend, need some line for the walleye rods anyway. I know what you mean by abusing equipment, we start on day 1 of opener and fish 3-5 nights a week after work and every weekend, evenings only 3-4 hours but weekends its before daylight till dark or after. Luckily few breakdowns on my gear but 1 of my partners can break an anvil with a rubber hammer and goes through a few reels a year. Only thing he hasn't broke in a years season is Calcuttas. We'll see how long this Okuma will last him thats how I gauge a reels quality by how long it takes him to tear one up.

everything breaks from time to time muskie fishing. last year i was bad on gear - three lunas (still my longest best lasting reels) three 7000s - couple of c4s (those break all the time but i like them for jerk baits). now i hve just found its best to have extras and keep things moving into/outof repair - thus why i was interested in how things worked just sending them right to abu.

$107 seems a hefty repair bill for warrenty work.

I got a bill for $50 on a ~7 year old 6500C3 several years back. Fixed the reel before they contacted me. If I would have known it would have cost $50, I would have never sent it in. Definitely soured me on the Abu Garcia brand. My arsenal is now Abu-free. grin
