MOCK SCRAPS????

Recommended Posts

I am in great anticipation of the pre-rut getting going and looking for some new ways/ideas to make a mock scrape.
I usually begin this in the 2 week of Oct.
and I use rumriver whitetail products from mn only
I use rubber gloves, find a decent spot along a well used doe trail and grab a sturdy stick make my scrape about 2'x2'
add buck urine, and break off some over hanging twigs.

I follow up each time the same way making the scrape bigger and refreshing the urine . but I leave the "licking Branches" alone.

any one do it differently?
any suggestion on a new tactic?

The only thing I do differently is nail up a licking branch to a tree if I want to put a mock scrape in a spot where there's no licking branch. Got a few nailed up branches that are going into their 2nd or 3rd year this fall.

saw this on a hunting show the other day....
when you're out in the woods scouting or whatever, try taking dirt from a fresh scrape and putting it in a zip lok bag, then you can either freeze it or put it in another scrape somewhere else. there should be some scent in the dirt from the deer that freshened the scrape.

BAmish, great tip,
Here is one I tried
If you shot a buck, take cotton ball and swab out the mouth and keep the cotton balls frozen
Swab his head around the base of the rack, keep ball frozen,
When you create a mock, use the saliva on the licking branch and the forhead scent on a mock rub, I have had great results...
Always have you scent colleting tools with you so when you shoot the big boy you can have the best scent for your next hunt.
Always extract before you field dress

I had a decent 8 come in last night before I got poured on!
came right up to the scrape and took a couple whiffs and decided that he wasn't man enough to take it over. He hung around for about 15 mins and then slowly walked off. It was a nice deer. I hope I see him again next year.

Last night was a windy one boy!
Glad I had my safety belt on! makes me feel much more "secure" on windy days
saw couple does and a small eight last night. He had messed up right side. at the tip of each antler it mushroomed. but that was it no other abnormities. guessing he stubbed it with a tree or somethings while they were still growing.

Wish I could have went out this morning. would have been good I bet.

Mudman- Would it be ok to give the information of the place you buy scent from? I live in St.Cloud and there are 2 places out of Princeton that sell scent. 1 place wants $12 for a 2 oz. of either doe or buck urine. The other wants $12 for 4 oz of either urine.

Thanks!

You can e-mail me and I can return it to you but I can't have a number or email address posted on this site. Unless I want to pay for it.

Miss a great opportunity last night.

It was 25min after sunset and getting too dark I was about to get down and then I heard him. Just TRASHING SOME TREE!! man did it get my heart going, he couldn't have been more than 50yds away, so I didn't want to get down and spook him so I stayed. about 6:55 this BRUISER come down the trail stops 10yds away and starts making a scrape. I couldn't count tines too dark. but it went well past both ears and I could just see the rack glowing in a golden color and had great height. I think I saw him this summer but I can't be sure.

TEMPTATION was at its worst. He finally past out of site after about 7:20 or so.

I wanted to take today off work but I figured I would wait until next week to take my days. It can only get better from here. I bet $100 I get this bad boy by end of Oct!

Buck whiz I use a lot of 1/4 of a bottle each time

estras not as much, I put a couple of scent wicks out, the kind you dunk into the bottle.

one bottle lasts me about 4 hunts or a solid weekend, which was what that size was intended for.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
