Stealth cams

Have the MC2 or whatever that sells for around $70. I guess you get what you pay for. Lots of pics with nothing on them, the camera tore the last roll of film when it rewound. Plus, it seems most of the deer are looking at the thing like it makes noise or something before the photo is taken. Anyone else used these things? Battery life is bad as well.

Haven't purchased a trail cam yet but I've been doing some looking around. There is a HSOforum for hunting gear reviews, it's something like, Hunting Gear Review and they have user-reviews of various trail cams. Chekidout!

I have 2 MC2-G Stealthcams, and have had no functional problems.
I have posted out here a few times in regards to the various models and ease of use.
I have a TrailHunter as well, but that was $200. Although its much easier to set up and use.

I bought the Stealthcams, because at $70 a crack, I could put out 3 of them, for the price of one more expensive one.

Here are pics from my Stealthcam

There is zero difference in photo quality on pictures.

Are you sure you didn't have a branch waving in front of the camera that triggered it?
Was it in direct sunlight?

I have a SC and found out the first time that you need to keep the thing aiming North or South unless you are in a nicely shaded area. The sun will trigger the sensor and any branches/grass etc. in front of the camera will have a heat signature in the sun that the IR sensor will pick up. Now I place the unit in a shadey area and aim it North and South. Now there are no more problems.

Thanks,
Russ

I have 4 MC2-G's. The very first time I tried one, the roll was filled with pictures of grass smile.gif I also belong to a bowhunting forum that has a special thread dedicated to trail cams. It was there that I found out about positioning the cam a bit higher than recommended and at a slight angle so that it points down between 5 and 10 degrees.

I have not had any problems since then. Well, I did again once when the wind was 40+ mph and the willow trees were moving like they were alive smile.gif

Once I figured out how to work the things, I don't need anything more expensive. The only thing that will get me to spend more is if I feel like a digital camera will be better. But since I scout 2,000 plus acres that are public, the more cameras that I have allow me to get more information sooner and I won't be out $400 if someone finds it and steals it. (no locking mechanism is full proof)

regarding them looking at the camera, remember you probably have been handling the camera with your bare hands and there is scent all over it. Secondly, they do make some noise, but not enough to spook them. When I first started using mine, the delay was set at 1 minute. Usually seen the 1st picture with them in normal pose, subsequent pictures showed the same deer looking at, or even walking up to the camera to investigate.

I had a few troubles with mine when I first got it, stupid thing would rewind after about 4 pictures, finally found out why, fixed it and now it works well. I just have to make sure it loads right and it is ok after that.

I don't get too many junk pictures, although I have had some but not enough to worry about. About half the deer are looking at the camera when it takes a picture seems like when the flash warms up that is when the seem to hear something.

It has worked well this season and I finally got a couple buck pictures after alot of does and fawns.

How do you guys have your timers set up, mine is set for 1 picture every 10 minutes.

My next one will be a digital for sure, just tired of running and getting the film developed but I will still use the 35mm.

Probably have had branches and stuff set off the cam in the wind. How far away do branches need to be so they won't trigger the cam on a windy day? Thanks for the tips on direct sunlight, I never gave that any thought.
