Alternatives for peep sight alignment

Recommended Posts

Have been using the rubber tubing for peep sight alignment and am looking at some other options. Looking at both standard draw loops and the metal loops. Any advice would be appreciated - I have bowhunting fever like you wouldn't believe this year!

Agreed...metal loops are a disaster waiting to happen...at the worst possible time.
Aligning the peep shouldn't be too much of a problem...especially if you've got a couple hundred shots on the string already. Keep flipping one strand from each side of the peep until it "comes about" correctly for you.

y dont you like the peep with the rubber alighnment tube?i have one and love it!! i have shot the other kind that have the string broke down into three and the string always seems to be in the line of sight. unless i didnt catch what you are saying
and definatly stick with the string loop!!

Rubber tubing can fail...And when it breaks and snaps you in the eye when you are drawing back on a big buck, it really stinks. It also sucks about 5-10 FPS from your set up because of the extra weight on the string. You would think the rubber tubing would help pull the string twards the cables.. but it doesnt.

Just took the bow in to Mouldy's for a sting loop. Figure I'll have plenty of time before deer season to see if I like it or not. I appreciate the responses and am open for further comments/suggestions. All I know is Sept 18 is too far away, but I'm gonna have so many tags in my pocket this fall that I may need a bigger freezer! I can smell gut pile already!

cooter- your making the right move.. just be sure that the person who is tying the string loop knows what they are doing. Make sure that the loop does not pinch the knock.. And you should be good to go... Best of luck and keep us posted!

I am somewhat of a hypocrate... I shoot a string loop on my hunting set up but shoot off the string on my target bow...its what works for me!

Resurecting this topic....

Exude,
Are you talking about the Ultra-noks and the T.R.U.-noks when you say metal loop? I guess I have been shooting with a Tru-nok for about 6 years and have not had a problem. Please enlighten me!! grin.gif

Also, have any of you used the whisker biscuit? And what is your opinion.

Tom,

There was a whole long discussion on rests, I think it was current sometime last week that talked about whisker biscuits. I personally had one on my old bow & one on my new bow, I love them, then again I'm a clutz & like something I know the arrow will stay one. Someguys say they're noisy, but their hearing must be a lot better than mine...

Tom old friend...How has your summer went? Since I fished with you last, I have been on a really good streak of cashing good checks and catching some really nice fish. I caught 45 bas in 4 hours last night... what a blast!!!!

OK.. back to the question...and these are my "OPINIONS". Metal loops, like the 2 you mentioned can damage the string, and rob you of valuable FPS(feet per seconds). I am not as worried about the FPS as I am the dammage to the string and the cables.(often times the loop will come in contact with the cables causeing them to start to frey)... I dont see any advantages to having a metal loop, not a one!

As for the Wisker Biscut... I think golden Key Futra makes a better version of this called the Wisker Disk...HOWEVER, I don't like the concept. They are very hard on fletching, and even harder on feathers if that is what you choose to use(I fall into this catagory, not a big fan of vanes. I feel this style rest also causes you to loose valuable FPS, can be noisy, and I worry about how it could wear and go out of tune...

They do have a nice idea.. the arrow cant fall off the rest... I think if you are a stalk hunter. One that hunts from the ground and goes steath after deer, Its got to be the best rest out there, but if you are huning from a stand from a set spot, I think you can do better.

Good luck Tom and keep in touch.. you know my e-mail and phone number!

I havnt been fishing as much as I should, just too much going on.

If you want to come over and hit the river some evening before school starts, let me know. My weekends are pretty booked through the ice season already.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
