Braided line

Hi hbomb, welcome to FM.

I use braided lines a lot in open water, not so much when ice fishing. They'll work much better in a heated shack, outside they'll freeze up right away unless the temperature is above freezing. They're also very visible in the water, I use a flouro leader about 3 feet long on my braided lines for ice fishing, attached with back-to-back uni knots.

I agree with PerchJerker, unless you are inside and out of the cold you will have problems with it in winter. It also doesn't sink either so more weight is needed. Fluorocarbon leader is a must, or if you want the great sensitivity just use fluorocarbon alltogether and skip the braid.

If your using lures that move a lot they will put line twist in your line so use a small swivel and it will take care of it. Especially when laker fishing bigger motion full lures in deep water I like a swivel. If Im shallow and using lures with less motion Ill use a back to back uni knot like mentioned above.

I like gamma line as a shocker ot the old trusty Trilene XT or XL. Best line I have found for the money.

I have been useing the Fireline Microice all season on one of my panfish outfits and love it!

It does ice up a tad faster than mono but not much. Not really an issue for me because if its below 20 degrees im inside my trap anyways.

Been running the .25 diamater/1 lb test and I can tell you it is way stronger than 1 lb test. I tie direct and havent had a time where I though I needed a mono or flourcarbon leader.

cool
