Buddy heater wont stay lit

Dozer

Question

I bought a used buddy heater the other day, worked just fine in my heated shop. Took it out with me in the permanent tonite, first it wouldn't light. I heated it up and it lit, but wouldn't stay lit for more that 5 min. What good is a heater that wont light or stay lit?

I had the same problem on mine that I bought new about 4 years ago. I finally moved the thermocouple up as high as I could and put a gentle bend in it to move it toward the pilot light flame and put more heat on it, now it works. I did try cleaning the pilot hole as reccommended by the company. Good Luck.

I had to take a 4 inch piece of coat hanger wire, bent it in a U, and put one end of it into the pilot hole an inch of two. This made the pilot flame stop fluttering. Now mine stays light. The other end of the wire hooks under the tin cover on the heater so it does not fall out.

One of the Buddy Heater's problems is that a small puff of wind can blow out the pilot. Take a piece of heavy aluminum foil and make a flap that hangs on the lowest wire that covers the flame, blocking the wind from hitting the pilot light. It cured that part of the problem for me.
