Sorry to report but the MORSON SHOPPING CENTRE IS closing permanently after Jan. 31. They will have minnows and stuff until then.

I just got off the phone with Terry Gil. (Tony has been in Sioux Narrows for nearly a year.)

He said business is way down and the store is losing money.

Some of the hardware and tackle will be moved to the Morson Marina that they own. Possibly gas there by this summer as well.

Terry plans to keep his ice house and minnow business going this winter and future winters as well.

But there will be NO groceries or ALCOHOL available in Morson from now on!! gas this winter by appointment only.

Terry said the family is going to try to sell the building and would welcome someone opening a store at that point but that it won't be an operating store when they sell it, which would make it hard for a startup.

It looks like they are serious about this which is a terrible blow to the community. It means a 30-mile drive (round trip) for groceries, beer or gas to Bergland. Hopefully, the Gills will keep the hardware stocked at the marina... but he's unsure if year-round.

What a shame. But Terry seemed a bit miffed that more people don't shop there.

My kids will be disappointed. It's their favorite store in the world. And I have only stumped them twice in six years on things i need to keep the cabin running.

Big loss for us.

While I can appreciate the problems he's having, he left my group of 9 hanging this spring when he didn't bother to get the minnows I specially requested for lake trout shore fishing. Didn't even make an excuse, just said he didn't bother. Does he know we're in a recession?

All that said, I do understand the new difficulty this adds to trips.
