Where to find metal skis to build a sled??

Does anyone have a source for metal skis? I would like to build a sled to pull behing the snowmobile and the skis need to be pretty tough to hold up. I'd like to find something about six feet long by 6" or so wide.

ha um i just saw a pair in a dumpster in kato and was gonna grab them for a project just like that they've been hard to find

I was thinking about taking a 6" channel iron and rolling the front up like a ski. Any thoughts???

My dad built a sled with some old steel snowmobile skis. He had 4 of them that he mounted end to end so he can also back the sled up and not bury it.

Find an old salvage yard and you'll find your skis.

i just looked up some pictures for channel iron, and it looks like you might have a verrrrryyyyy difficiult time rolling up the front without some heavy duty equiptment.

a couple lengths of channel iron and a torch is about all you need in that case.

i guess it all depends how wide and what gauge the iron is...but i would think you would want something light and wide enough to ride on top of the snow.

you could just notch out the sides of the iron with the torch then heat it up to bend easily by hand.

I did this around 20 years ago and still have them.

I wanted to make a saddle for the wheel to ride in. I could cut the sides and heat to get it to roll, then weld the cuts back together and grind smooth. I need to measure the with of the tire to see what size channel is needed.
