wplatehunter
My boat cover does not cover my motors, and I am looking at getting something to cover them for trailering. They are both Yamaha's. Does anyone have any info on covers good or bad. Do they stay on good going down the road? Thanks for any info.
marine_man
On a motor cover that is separate from the main cover, most of the time they flap in the wind and end up rubbing paint off the hood or pan... they stay on, but will rub paint off...marine_man
wplatehunter
So would you go without one?
marine_man
I would...If your sole purpose for getting one is going down the road I'd go without. If it's for covering your motor when it's sitting at your house / etc, then it's not a bad thing.marine_man
wplatehunter
Thanks for the info. Anyone else use them? I'm glad I did not buy one prior to posting this.
PerchJerker
My boat is a Ranger with a Ranger travel cover - it would be hard to find a better travel cover than Ranger makes. Even so, I don't cover my motors when traveling, for fear of rub marks.
wplatehunter
Thanks the last thing I want is rub marks.
setterguy
I have a Yamaha motor cover and have had no rub marks. I would guess if you get a generic one it may not fit right, but if you get one specific to your motor it will fit much better. I use mine on the highway and it is as snug as can be. lookin4fish
I made my own out of lycra/spandex material. If you know someone who can run a sowing machine, it took me about 3 hours start to finish. it fits tight trailering down the road. I made it to keep the bugs off and hopefully keep from getting scratched from having to scub the bugs off. I also put in a buckle strap at the base to tighted it up around the cowling. i would take a pic for you but the boat is in storage now. goose89
I inquired about a custom (Suzuki) boat cover when I got my new boat, since my prior one had one also, and I really like my stuff covered / protected. Salesman was honest enough to tell me that he wouldn't get one for reasons previously mentioned, plus they can trap moisture if they get a hole / tear, and cause problems after a while. Best motor cover, in his opinion (and mine now), is a monthly cleaning and waxing with a quality car / marine wax. Haven't quite kept up with the monthly thing, but cover looks great and bugs come right off for the most part.
wplatehunter
Thanks sounds like they are not worth the money.
