Radio off the 12 volt?

I am currently running 2 strings of led lights off a spare 12 volt and am looking at running a radio off it as well. Anyone have any suggestions or done this?

Why not just a portable radio with it's own battery? No hookups, batteries last forever, probably smaller.

that is an option, I just figured since I had the 12 already in there, I would hook it to that.

Ive got a cd deck/ Radio in my wheel house, Pretty easy to hook up, not sure if that's what you're looking for though.

I have a CD deck in my portable with a LED light strip running on a spare vex battery.

I got a couple of Rocker switches that turns the radio and the lights on/off.

Pretty simple to hook up. Depending on how loud you play your radio the battery last awhile. I think the most I got out of a battery so far is 7.5hrs on a battery.

I did the same as Aces. Got a switch panel made for boats and put that in my portable. Mounte a car stereo in there and can just switch off the power. Another option is to just connect a cig outlet to the batter and get a cheap power inverter to run a house radio off of. But if you go with a car stereo either run to switches or you can direct wire to the batter.

Yep, blew my speakers. Get marine speakers and you will be fine. Put the radio where it won't get wet or get a marine case for it.

I gave up on the radio, I now use mp-3. I download outdoor shows, listen to FM, or just music.

Any car stereo will work or an ipod with portable speakers.
