PLEASE HELP HANDHELD GPS

honda4life

Question

I know there are tons of threads on this... if you were to buy a handheld gps that is compatible with lakemaster chip but didnt have more than 200 dollars to spend on a used one.. which model would be the best? I like the touch screen ones but i just want it accurate and easy to read. Magellan? Lowrance? Garmin?

Garmins will take LakeMaster chips but only if they're Garmin LM chips. Magellan won't. So you're probably looking at a Lowrance GPS.

The XOG is cheaper and is a touch screen. Downsides are not WAAS capable, and internal battery so short battery life unless you can keep it plugged into a power port.

iFinders like the H2Oc are great units but a little more than $200. They are not touch-screen units but they have better battery life and work on AA batteries, and have better protection against the elements.

IS THAT WAAS ENABLED? OR ACCURATE TO HOW MANY FEET?

WAAS? Some big box sites say it has it in their write-up/reviews. I kind of get mixed reviews looking around on the web. Some in here say it does not, but it has been darn accurate for me wink. IMO, WAAS might be a little over rated anyways, to what I have found said on the net wink.

It is very nice, like yesterday going to a new lake that I had never been on before. The unit turned by turned me right to the lake and right to the spot I wanted to try first.

You need the Lakemaster though. Navionics will work, but only zoom into a 100’. The Lakemaster will zoom into 12’. Down side being north of the metro, Lakemaster does not carry some lakes that the Navionics does, but the road maps are much nicer on the Lakemaster.

The screen is nice and big for the price and I use it right on my sled. It has worked for me in around 0 temps and has even gotten wet and still works great. Hand held wise, they say the rechargeable internal battery has a life of 2-3 hours, but when using it with out charger hooked up, just remember to shut it off when not needed and you can use it all day. Mine goes right from the truck to the sled 12v plug in and back into the truck 12v plug in.

You can find out more about them here and at a great price:

XOG at Pro Fishing Supply!

With my personal experience with the H2O, I find the XOG way better for what I need wink!

I personally can not stand buying batteries grin

I just can not!

Even if AA's gets me a couple more hours, I love the rechargeable aspect of the XOG.
