Canvas Craft Northlander

I was also thinking of getting one of these shacks. Wondering if the 6x8 would be big enough for 3 people and all there gear. Also wondering if the hinge where the two halfs meet would freeze if left outside on the back of a truck and then not want to open the next day

Yup, just slide the poles (front and back) up, tighten and slap on the cross poles. my buddy has the insulated one and not much from the heater is needed, he said. I fish 2 out of mine and can fish 3 if needed. The hinge is the only thing iv'e replaced in mine. (slid it on the garage floor too many times and wore through) Just went to the hardware store and bought a new hinge, pretty cheap. The hinge has never froze on mine.

The floor is the biggest reason i love this house, so my feet and gear is not on the ice!!!! I put carpet in too, (keeps the heat a little better.) If you purchase the kit, where you have to put your own plywood floor in it, I'd use marine grade treated plywood, mine came with 1/2" plywood.

Good luck. p.s.- my next house WILL be the northlander 6x8 w/norpac lining. if it fits in the truck.

I think I'm going insulated as well!! Looks like the ticket to me!!

Oh, it is! I've got the double-flip over and have found the Norpac insulated IS the ticket. Actually, I haven't met a person that's said they would not like the insulated material. It's easier to heat, no moisture buildup and the lighter color inside helps to see things easier. I love it.

I have the big northlander, and would not ever want to trade it for the world. I dont have the insulated canvas becuase i use it for spearing, and the insulation is white, so its not as warm. But as far as the house, there built awesome, they last forever, and if you ever have a problem, just call them and they will do anything for you to take care of the problem. Nate and the boys up there Rock.

What Dave said others also

I bought a new one this year, 8x8 insulatted one, LOVE IT! You wont be disapointed. I went with treated plywood made it a lot heavier but seemed to be stonger then cdx.

The insulation doesnt realy add that much more wait if you were wondering.
