Morson to Whitefish Slush Reports (LOTW)

Recommended Posts

Anyone been out riding out on Whitefish Bay or in the Morson area?? We make the long run from Morson up to Whitefish for the Lakers. We a re planning on lots of slush and leaving the "pull-behinds" at camp.

Open Ice fishing can be cold, but being stuck in slush really sucks.

Any idea on Ice thickness up in Whitefish Bay?

It should be better on the Morson end since they missed some of the snow we got earlier this season. I have not heard the reports from the Whitefish Bay area. Some of the trout lakes in our area to the East of Nestor Falls are better than the shallower lakes.

Tman2,

Not sure what weather you are looking at, but I am seeing highs from 9 above to 15 above..of course these change daily.

Anything above -30 is warm for trout fishing.

I guess the Metro area does have balmy temps compared to Northern, MN and Canada.

I was excited to see that the pull behinds can stay at camp, with the above zero temps.

Hmmm. A lot of speculation here but no actual reports! Must not be anyone up there.

I'm hearing lots of slush out there...

Latest Kenora forecast calls for highs around 10-15 abve F....

And you guys are nuts, I wouldn't fish without a shelter until March when it hits 45!!!! I'd stay in the cabin if I couldn't use a shelter and a heater, but I'm a whimp...

We'll be staying closer to Morson targeting walleyes -- reports have been very good not far out.

Take care.

Wthing

looks like a bunch of us are heading up to Whitefish bay on the 1st also. (weather permitting) we too will be riding from Morson. I was close to Turtle lake on Christmas eve day but thats as close I came to Whitefish. i just hope the wind stays down. we will probably try for walleyes later in the afternoon closer to Morson. My dad says that there is close to 2 ft of ice close to Morson and they got a road plowed out from somewhere. he didnt tell me in detail. Most likely be making a day trip.

W.T hope to see yall up there.

Jan. 2 was very cold but clear...lots of slush between Morson and Turtle Portage in small "managable" patches. Whitefish bay had lots of small patches too.

Jan. 3 was not as cold...but another 10" of snow or more....very dangerous conditions on the lake...slush still there...some large fields starting

The snow is waist deep on the lake in drifts...quite brutle running across Sabaskong.

Don't go anywhere alone...snow is very deep and loose...lots of slush too

Fishing was slow...4 trout for 12 guys in 2 days. Walleyes were snapping but very small.

Yep lotsa slush. worst I seen ever. didnt get any lakers. Pulling a portable slowed us down quite a bit. We went up on the 2nd. Seen one other group and when I stopped and talked to them I got stuck. But yeah the snow is deep and much deeper now. If we get any wind the lake will be really bumpy. Think next time i go for lakers I might try Caviar or Dogpaw. but just like any lake I am sure there is slush. keep on that throttle....B-dude

p.s swedishpimple, i only came across one group and stopped and chatted. I was on a orange crossfire. where you in that group?

Benelli_dude2002.....yep...that was me. I was in a Pack Shack with that little 500 Legend Fan.

I did a little pushing on your sled.

Your dad came over to look for our lost members on Saturday night too. They were more stuck then lost...but still not good.

Man, was it bad up there!! Sabaskong is horrendous for slush! We found (and spent some serious time in) a slush pocket that was 1/4 mile long and really wide. Got off the track, twice on the way back on Saturday. A 45 minute trip ended up being 4 hours where we started to get concerned we weren't going to get back safely. I was soaked from standing in the slush and sweating from all the work required to repeatedly free ourselves only to get stuck a few feet further. Spent all of Sunday in the brutal cold getting the sled de-iced and actually moving. The weatherman's TOTALLY screwed the forecast! -30 wasn't in there anywhere!!
