I just got a set of 4 for x-mas and was wondering how well these work and the best way to position them around a portable.

With 4 strings, I would either place a line in front of your portable or two in front and two offset in back.

Well, let's just say this. You shouldn't get "Skunked".

They have worked very well for myself personally. Some days they have minimal effect, other days, you'd swear they were made from magic. It's a great tool to have and help out situations where you may not have done so well.

be sure to keep holes where they won't freeze.

Never had any issues with holes freezing. Just squeeze the float and they come right through the whole were the float was.

I have head the hole freeze over pretty good and like mentioned above, squeeze the foam ball and they will come out.

There have been times when it has been nasty cold out when the hole will freeze over very quick and I will take my boat and place it in the hole to break up the ice forming and then it has to start all over.

No a real issue if you watch it a bit.

Another small piece of advice would be when you wrap up the weeds on the holder, let the water drain off them a little before you throw them down where they could freeze to somrething like the bottom of your tub for your portable. Its not good for them if they freeze to the tub and you try and pull them out, it will work but you will also leave a few stems on the bottom froze on.
