Scott K
Quote: Oil Change Reminder Lamp: Service and RepairHOW TO RESET THE ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEMThe Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change the engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime the oil is changed, reset thesystem so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change the oil prior to a change engine oillight or "CHANGE OIL SOON" message being turned on, reset the system. After changing the engine oil, reset the system by performing the following steps:1. With the engine off, turn the ignition key to "RUN".2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.3. Turn the key to "OFF", then start the vehicle. If the light or message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure. Scott K
Sometimes you just need to do it a few times for it to work.
Jeremy airjer W
Does it have the 4 mileage/info buttons on the steering column?
ratmn218
no buttons on steering wheel
Jeremy airjer W
Make sure you shut the car off have the key out of the ignition, open the door so all the accessories shut off, close the door, turn the key to "run" pump the pedal 3 times wait for all the lights to stop blinking in the message center then turn the key off or start it.These can be a real PIA to reset. I'll try it three times, if it doesn't reset they get backed out!
ratmn218
smart enough to change oil. but not smart enough to reset light
Jeremy airjer W
Exactly for some reason some of these just don't want to reset. I have noticed a better success rate if I do the reset procedure before I start it after the oil change.
theoilman
With my 02 Trail Blazer (Chevy of the same vehicle) even after 25 attepts at the procedure it refuses to reset. I just tolerate the light being slow to turn off.
lawdog
My wife's trailblazer was the same way before we traded it off. I bet I tried to reset that stupid thing about 20 times per oil change!
The_Duckslayer
I do not know what it is but I am unable to reset the one on the wifes Envoy. I tried and tried so I told her that she would have to do it herself. Well lo and behold she probably thinks that I am dumb now as it worked for her just fine! Have repeated that story each time I change the oil on the thing. On another note the thing is a pig for oil isn't it? 7 quarts for a 6 Cyl?! Take care and N JOy the Hunt././Jimbo
