2005 envoy oil reset 6 cylinder

oil light stays on for a brief period after starting, i change my own oil at 3000 miles .last time was under warrenty, brought in and they said all it was the oil reset didnt work when i tried. im thinking same thing now. what am i doing wrong????? i turn key on and depress acc 3 times withen 5 seconds. dont want to pay dealer to reset again.

The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change the engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime the oil is changed, reset the

light or "CHANGE OIL SOON" message being turned on, reset the system.

After changing the engine oil, reset the system by performing the following steps:

1. With the engine off, turn the ignition key to "RUN".

3. Turn the key to "OFF", then start the vehicle.

If the light or message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Sometimes you just need to do it a few times for it to work.

Does it have the 4 mileage/info buttons on the steering column?

no buttons on steering wheel

Make sure you shut the car off have the key out of the ignition, open the door so all the accessories shut off, close the door, turn the key to "run" pump the pedal 3 times wait for all the lights to stop blinking in the message center then turn the key off or start it.

These can be a real PIA to reset. I'll try it three times, if it doesn't reset they get backed out!

Exactly for some reason some of these just don't want to reset. I have noticed a better success rate if I do the reset procedure before I start it after the oil change.

With my 02 Trail Blazer (Chevy of the same vehicle) even after 25 attepts at the procedure it refuses to reset. I just tolerate the light being slow to turn off.

My wife's trailblazer was the same way before we traded it off. I bet I tried to reset that stupid thing about 20 times per oil change!

I do not know what it is but I am unable to reset the one on the wifes Envoy. I tried and tried so I told her that she would have to do it herself. Well lo and behold she probably thinks that I am dumb now as it worked for her just fine! Have repeated that story each time I change the oil on the thing. On another note the thing is a pig for oil isn't it? 7 quarts for a 6 Cyl?! Take care and N JOy the Hunt././Jimbo

After many attempts I finally got mine to reset. The only difference, I did it rrrr-eeeee-aaaaa-lllll-yyyyy ssss-lll-oooo-wwww-lllll-yyyyyyyyy.
