Slush Fields

I have a question about slush on top of the ice. I set up my house last night on 5" to 5.5" of ice, but walked through some slush to get to where I wanted to be.

Do I need to worry about the slushy conditions?

Short answer; yes. No ice is safe, especially this early. If you made it out and back, though, I'd consider the path you took to be safe.

I like that answer. If you would have fallen through then it wasn't safe.

true...i made it back, and that's a good thing.

my house is a custom-built suitcase style, so it's really not permanent, but heavy enough to leave it out there...i get a license for it every year.

the part of this lake is slushy for most of early ice, and have noticed many houses out there sitting in water.

all of the houses move into deeper water once Jan rolls around.

hmm, not trying to justify anything - safety first!
