As with any Depthfinder gain setting is important. One of the key points here is that you are getting red lights that are circling the screen. It sounds like your gains may be set too high. Here is what I suggest:

1. Start up one unit and set the transducer in the hole making sure the puck is well below the bottom of the ice. Drop your bait down and turn the gain as low as you can and still see your bait. Make sure your IF is on 1 and that you use the narrow beam for now. Use x1 or x2, don't use A. Assuming everything is okay at this point set up the second unit.

2. Drop the transducer in so it is well below the bottom of the ice. Turn on the unit with the gain set at 1 and the IF at 1 and the beam on narrow. You won't be able to see your bait at this point in the second hole.

3. If there is interference on the first unit start trying different IF settings. Do it slow to make sure the cycle is complete. If you work your way through all of the IF's on the first unit and are still getting interference, your unit may be faulty and you should contact service.

4. Assuming you can get rid of the interference on the first unit and there is none on the second unit drop you bait down and increase the gain until you can see the bait. If you get interference on either unit at this time, adjust the IF on the second unit one click at a time. If the interference goes away on the second unit, you can assume that unit is fine. If the first unit still has interference try more IF settings.

Reducing interference is not magical and can take considerable adjustments especially if there is more than two units around. The two major keys are to keep your gain as low as possible and to keep the transducers as far apart as possible. Good luck.

Good info Maverick.

Changing from a Bird to a MarCum and not working with the interference button or not setting it up properly will not help.

Whether it be a MarCum, Vex or a Bird, the instructions need to be followed to a tee. After working with it and maybe rereading the directions to help solve the interference issues, then you may have a defective unit.

At that time, I would contact the company that makes whatever product.
