cleaning traps?

I am apt in the kitchen, and use straight ammonia to clear grease off of metals, will ammonia work to sip metals of scents and grease?

Most of the guys have used lye, or tiedy bowl toilet cleaner over the years. I boil my traps in a 30 gallon barrel, out side over a wood fire. Now some people have started using sent free dish washing soap. After you get the scent and oil off of the traps, you can dye them in trap dye and then I wax them. Once this process is done, I hang my trps outside,away from any stinky odors.

I have limited space, as I live in a townhouse, but I can store them in a rubermaid container, in my garage. would it help if I put some leaves and other outdoor scents in with them?
