Re-setting change oil light -- 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Recommended Posts

there is a fuse box on the drivers side of the dash between the dash and the door. There will be a red reset button. Turn the key on (do not start) and press the button one time. The oil change light will flash (or maint. required or whatever it is). Push and hold the red button until you hear the audible beeps stop.

Its in the manual under oil life monitor or sometimes you will have to go to the warning lights page. I don't remember specifically.

Quote:
How to Reset the Change Oil Light

The GM Oil Life System calculates when to change

your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime

your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate

when the next oil change is required. If a situation

occurs where you change your oil prior to a CHANGE

OIL light being turned on, reset the system.

After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset.

To reset the oil life indicator, do the following steps:

1. With the ignition key in ON (a short time

after turning off the engine), press the RESET

button located in the driver’s side instrument

panel fuse block.

2. When the CHANGE OIL light starts to flash, press

and hold the RESET button again.

The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the

CHANGE OIL light goes out.
