do you guys typically follow other boats or head toward wher nobody else is fishing when you have no idea what the lake is fishing like?

I try yo stay away or just far enough away to where the fish maybe push off that spot and move down the shoreline of structure but if you see lots of people catching them maybe move in alittle but give people there space! If not I really like to fish where no one else is fishing that way if you get a few you got the spot all to yourself.

I prefer trolling, so I don't consider moving in somewhat close and trolling by bad, and I probably would rather go through a group of 2-3 boats then way around it, as long as I'm not interrupting anyone already fishing there.

Otherwise, I don't see an issue. A lot of the time I'm trolling for something completely different then they are casting for anyways

Of course, when I catch the fish, I'd much rather have it far from people

I like to go off on my own. But if I'm not catching any I'll go near them but not too close. I don't like to be a pain like others do to me and ancher 3 feet away.

Well, it depends. If I don't know the lake at all (or a part of the lake I'm not familiar with) then I might cruise by to see what's showing up on the graph and get an idea for the structure. I'll then mark it, take some notes, and move on.

This was the case for me a couple nights ago. Fished a lake i've never been on before. I too like to run around and fish where nobody is, but then again, i was catching much. So I migrated toward an older couple of guys anchored down next to a channel and BAM, started hammering the bass.

Of course, I kept my distance from them and gave them a show I guess too. They were sitting on a crappie hole, so I now know where that is too

I like keeping my distance and "making" my own spots. Being to close to people can turn bad sometimes, and I want to stay away from that stuff.

If I'm not familiar with a lake, and don't have a map, then I'll make mental notes of where ppl are, and try them when they leave. but I think half the fun is finding them yourself, watching the shorelines, looking at bottom for structure if possible. but I do watch & talk others to see if they are catching, but never try to encroach on others. Unless its one of my good buddies.lol

Im not one who likes to fish with other boats. Guess I just dont like the traffic. If there are a bunch of boats on a specific spot. And they are catching what I am targeting, then I will look at the map and try to duplicate is somewhere else on the lake.

Yeah, i definitly try not to fish where others are, but do go where they were after they leave.
