Do reel mowers work?

i'm starting a small yard. i thought it might be easier to get one of those reel mowers. i'd never have to get gas and oil for it.

anyone on here have one or used one? do they work?

You need to use them more often as they don't do well in taller grass. Some say that the cut is cleaner and does less damage to the grass.

They work fine. As Ron said- taller grass is tougher. The other thing is the clippings just fall to the ground. So if your ground is real long- chances are you will need to rake.

Other than that- I would go with one if you have a small yard.

I saw a just what you need for sale along the hiway this weekend.Someone had mounted a reel mower on the front axle of a bike.Looked like a lot of work but ride your bike and mowe the lawn all at once.
