SimilarIsland
I'm hearing something about new gas regulations that effect the gas that we have delivered into camp (Manitou Area). I've been told that we shouldn't fill the tank more than we can use in 60 days. Is this due to Ethynol? Are there any additives we can use to extend the life of the gas when it sits in a 500 gallon tank? This is gonna be a pain...........Thanks for any insight. superbee
I haven't heard about that, but any storage over 150 gallons has to be a double wall tank and 15ft from the high water mark. I know that gas today breaks down in 30-60 days and they reccommend adding stabil to stop this.
SimilarIsland
Thanks Superbee,Yah, we comply with those regs. They changed tanks and moved it several years ago. We usually fill up the 500 and that lasts the year with no problems. I think this has something to do with what has to be in the gas, maybe ethanol, that causes it to go bad even faster. I was wondering what the difference now is and whether Stabil would prolong the life like with normal gas.
Outfitter17
I talked with Greg at the great bear a couple of weeks ago and he said they wouldn't have any gas with ethanol for another year or so.With non ethanol gas you will be fine for the season, with 10% like the states, it will break down in about 60 days.Greg had mentioned that it will only be 5% ethanol at his station, so it may make the season - I'm not sure, but again it's not suppose to be this year. SimilarIsland
Thanks Matt,Do you know if Stabil or any other additive will extend the life with the 5% ethanol? I think Ted, I bet you know him, delivers for the island.
BobT
Stabil, Seafoam, and others will help but any gasoline will deteriorate over time. Bob
Down Deep
Try posting this on the Experts or Automotive Fourm they have some good motor heads reading and posting.
Outfitter17
If the 5% shows up this year, I would think if you use the full 500 gallons you should be fine without any additive. If some is left and it sits through the winter I would ad some.Who is going to deliver your gas this year, ted sold the barge a couple weeks ago - I heard. If you need fuel this summer, we might be able to fill your tank this summer if we have time.
