He's been GF on various large jobs for the past who knows how many years and I always get to hear about some of the upcoming generations work ethic on the jobs he's running. Not all or most by any means, but there are always some as you mentioned and it seems to me that number is growing as the younger ones move in and the old timers are retiring. He also sees many hard working guys out there and smart kids coming out of the schools....so thats also good to hear when the conversation changes tone. One thing about my pops, on the job he's goes strait by the book.....which some guys today don't seem to like (again, I get the feeling of more of the younger guys....but not all). Your not walking in the door at 8:00am or at your car at 3:30, your ready to work or locking the gang box at those times. Hopefully he will retire this year....he's 60 years old and put in 71 hours last week. It's time for him to grab a pole and go fishing!
JohnMickish
You are right on with the attitude and work ethic. I don't know what it is nowdays, but it seems that the apprentices we get are either really good or really bad. Not much of a middle ground. Funny how many of them complain about not having money and at the same time are late 2 days a week.
riverrat56
Working hard is a quality I do have, right now I'm just trying to pick up on as much stuff as I can in school and hope that I can find a job in the next year. Some of the guys that I go to class with are unreal in that they will skip so much class and screw off all day, I can't see how they think there whole mind set and attitude towards work will change when they have a job....
