Jeremy airjer W
Growing up on the range I remember having a side dish at just about every social gathering I can remember. It was cabbage with a sweet oil and vinegar dressing. Anybody know what I am talking about? I have not had it in a long time and was thinking about it today as I was making a broccoli/cauliflower salad, also one of my favorites. As long as I am at it I will share it. I'm sure many of you are familiar with it, I have not had it anywhere in southern MN yet.1 head of cauliflower1 equal amount of broccoli1 cup sour cream1 cup Miracle Whip2 cups shredded cheddar1 pound bacon1/2 red onionoptional itemsfavorite nuts, favorite dried fruit, and/or grapes to tasteMix sugar, Miracle Whip, and sour cream in a bowl and set aside. Cut up broccoli and cauliflower into bite size pieces. Fry up bacon till crisp and coarse chop it. Chop red onion into 1/4 dice. In a large bowl combine broccoli, cauliflower, bacon, cheese, onion and any other additional ingredients. Stir in dressing mixture and stir well. Its ready to serve but always seems to taste better after a couple of hours in the fridge!

Shred cabbage and soak in ice water for 20 minutes. Drain well, patting dry with towels. Place shredded cabbage in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients; mix well.Serves 8. Jeremy airjer W
One of those has to be it! Sweet and sour cabbage doesn't sound to bad either. Sounds similar to the red cabbage sides at a German restaurant.
Wookiee
Don't sit too close to the heater in the fish house after you eat it though
Jim Almquist
Airjer if you would like a couple more let me know because I only looked in 2 out of 4 cookbooks. I love the Pines to Prairie cookbooks because all of the recipes are homemade type and if there is any differences in the recipe they will put it in so you get a lot of variations of the same recipe. Most are from Minnesota but all are from the midwest so it is the type of stuff you get at potluck dinners-MY FAVORITES
Jeremy airjer W
There's some fine eating anytime there is a northern MN potluck or family gathering for the holidays! If I remember right the last time I had it was at a Duke Skorich (sp?) barbecue. Definitely the best I ever had!
Jeremy airjer W
I made a combo of the two. 1 cup vinegar, 3/4 cup sugar, tsp celery seed, 2 tsp ground mustard. Boiled it for 3 minutes and poored over the cabbage/onion/green pepper. Not to bad!
