OneWay
Sorry for such a stupid question, but I see references frequently to ripping a lure on its retrieval. I am assuming it means a quick fast retieve. Is it usually in several short distances or a continuous fast retrieve, assuming my assumption is correct. fishcast
Probably would apply many ways in fishing like you mentioned. When I say it I am usually referring to ripping cranks through weeds, like when you feel the lure getting caught in the weeds and then I jerk-bait it or rip it free. Works real well for pike.Otherwise maybe burning or reeling fast. Or just accelerating a lure faster than a normal retrieve for a moment on and off in the retrieve. cjac
OneWay, No such thing as a "stupid" question, especially dealing with a fish that eats metal lures! Rippin' is like said above, bringing it thru the weeds, looking to trigger an instinct strike while creating a commotion. Cranks do well with this, espicially floaters as the bouyancy brings the lure up a bit off the weeds. Fairly stiff rod and a braided line work well. Not the easiest on the arms, but fun stuff. jwhjr
They really like to strike right after you rip it through the weeds that's for sure.
JimBuck
First off. I love the word. I use it probably a little too often but it's one of those that becomes so universal you tend to bend it's meaning just to throw it in context. The following are the two primary ways I use the word. 1. To describe an activity, event that was incredibly exciting. ex. "I gotta go pick up more bait, the northerns are absolutely rippin'! Let's stay a few more hours.2. To describe a physical motion that involved fast movement. ex. "I had a tough time with those weed beds by the point. The only way they would bite was if I ripped a crankbait through there."I'm curious if other people use this term outside of the fishing context?
