Jim916
Our first chance to get out was Saturday morning. We had 1 bird come in right away, but we never saw him. About ½ later I heard a hen yelping. I copied her yelps and the next thing we see is her walking towards us. Right behind her were 2 jakes. The jakes left the hen and walked to our decoys. My wife did not want to shoot a jake, so we just watched them trying to impress our decoys. By this time the gobbling was pretty slow so we decide to have a snack. She opened up her corn nuts, looked out in the field and said there is one all fanned out. I looked out of the blind but I did not see anything. I looked at her and she still had the corn nuts in her hand and was smiling at me. I was thinking, ok you tricked me, you got me all excited about nothing. I look up again and here is a bird in full strut walking toward our decoys. He came in silent, never gobbled once. She shot him at 40 yds. The bird weighed 20 lbs, with a 9" beard and 1" spurs. It was a fun hunt(but short), and a great memory to share with my wife.
