bait store open 24 hours?

In my early days,the decision to head up river was often made after bar rush or worse a desperation stop at Perkins. This led to many creative desperation bait choices as well.

Enter Cub foods. They went 24 hours in Stillwater first. And believe me, I have tried almost everything at the fish and meat counter for bait. Here are some of my findings.

Chicken liver is way better than beef liver but doesn't stay on the hook as long. Checkout girls look at you funny and ask disturbing questions.

Shrimp work but are expensive and there is a high risk your buddies will eat them before you get a line set.

Oatmeal and corn can catch sucker that can be later filleted as cut bait.

Squid work really well on quick strike rigs but don't be freaked out when you real one in. Reverse osmosis puffs them up and they come back twice as big as you sent them out.

Oysters work but remind you are fishing.

Hot dogs are great to catch a bull head that can be upgraded and sent back out.

Frozen fish works but is not cost effective, prosably illigal, and just plain backwards. After being out all night with a credit card record at Perkins most guys stop at the fish store on the way home not on the way up.

I've used shrimp and liver about 10 years ago. Would let it sit out a day and get good and stinky. Worked pretty good then.

If you have a bait bag, try sardines in oil...An old used party hose will also work to hold the sardines in.

OKAY, an old panty hose story.

Two guys were going fishing and one of them, when they got to the lake, pulled on a pair of panty hose over his jeans. His friend asked him why.
