Preemergent herbicide for new seeding?

I was wondering if there is a product that I could put down as a preemergent weed control/fertilizer right after I put in grass seed. I want to seed the areas of my lawn that had annual type crab grass/ weeds but then I also want to immediatly put down a preemergent herbicide to prevent the annuals from starting without hurting the new grass. Any help would be appreciated.

I hear Scotts has a product for new seeding / crabgrass preventer.

I have no experience with in, and I'm not entirely sure how it works, since most pre-emergents work the same, prevent new seeds from sprouting.

In general I would say that it is not possible. New products and new technology come around all the time, but I'd be skeptical.

Pre-emergent works by creating a chemical vapor barrier in the soil so that new sprouts die before breaking through to the surface. It works the same on all grasses since all grasses are the same. We've just decided that some types of grass are desirable and some are not.

Actually it is possible. Not sure what chemical is in the scotts product but i have used a product called Tupersan as a pre emergent durring seeding and it has worked good. All I know is it prevents grassy weeds from germinating. Tupersan is very expensive though.
