Smoke Alarms

Question...My smoke alarm batteries are good, but last night, my smoke alarms 4am came on for about 5 seconds? I checked everything in the house to make sure, everything was fine. Again, about an hour later 5am, same thing, my alarms went off again for about 3 seconds? Any ideas?

Thanks

if you have a newer home the bedroom circut may be arc-fault

protected as well as the smoke detectos and they may possibly

be on the same circut. in the past chirping smokes are usually

caused by a loose neutral (if hard wired) i'm not sure if it

would affect the clock. "possible"

Yeah, they are all hard wired. House is 3 1/2 years old. Have not had any problems before with these alarms going off. The chirping in the past has occured and I just changed the battery to solve the chirping. You think it might be wiring??

Try looking smoke alarms up on the net, there are two types,One is touchie to just air changes,I dont recall now but I did at one time learn of the two,the touchie one is only recommended away from drafts, kitchen, dust etc.You may want to change types. They also have a 8-10 year life span depending on comditions it could be shortened.

I researched it and it could be that they need to be cleaned? They say sometimes a bug or something might get in their which can set them off???? Thanks for the help

I would check which alarm is setting them off . The one that sets them off should have a blinking green light on it , the others go off because that one sensed a problem .Make sure all your smoke alarms are the exact same unit , thay all must be compatible with each other. There is a compatablity chart on the net if you do have different ones. Possible the builder put in different ones (as mine did) . All smoke alarms are hard wired together . It is code to have all bedrooms on arc fault breaker though your alarms may not be on an arc fault breaker even though they are in a bedroom.I added a bedroom to my house and that smoke alarm is not on arc fault being it had to be tied into the others and the electrical inspector was fine with that.

Most likely just take the unit down that was setting off the alarm and blow it out with compressed air and should not have a problem.

It's not a bug and it's not the wiring. It is either (probably) a faulty unit or a battery issue. I would swap out all of the batteries first then go from there. Good luck with this and I know it's a pretty rude way to wake up.
