Late Ice Out

LMITOUT

So with this weather hanging around and keeping the lakes locked up later than it has in quite a while, what is everyone's opinion on how the walleye opener will shape up? The water should still be fairly cold unless we get some real warm days between now and then, and a lot of them. What mode will the fish be in?

Hardly any doubt that the fish will be in pre-spawn mode in northern MN but I think a good portion of the remainder of the state will be looking at post-spawn movements. Just like most years, some lakes will have good to excellent bites, while others will have fair to non-existent bites.

i agree with TO. Chances of northern mn (Leech lake and up) will probably be in prespawn mode. thinking that the bite might be on up there, but that also depends on the weather, but the movement will happend regaurdless, females and males will be eating in the north country, south of there lakes will be in post spawn and wont be much action. normally if you wait a couple weeks in the southern side of the state the eye action picks up signifcantly...if you can find them.

The big lakes will have a decent opener i am guessing and all will hopefully be bagging some decent males. Hopefully everyone knows to be throwing back those fat females, and help support self sustaining lakes. anyways, hope the fishing is good for all, and remember to throw back the fatties..:)
