Cat Rookie Here Would like some info please

I want to fish for big cats this year where do I start as far where to look for them, tackle to use as far as rigs go I think I know what baits to use I would say suckers and liver and anything else that stinks But I have no clue how to even start rigging up a cat setup nontheless have a clue how big of rod and reel to use or line size or how big of weights to use or how big of hooks or anything of that nature Basically I'm completely clueless and would appreciate any help I could get from you cat pro's out there I would love to see the look on my eight year olds face if he hooked into one of those big kitty's that would make both of our seasons. I started with a very simple setup. 6'6" MH Rhino spinning glass rod and big Shakespeare apla spinning reel for cost of $40 together with 20# mono. Get some 1 oz sinkers and some 1/0 hooks. This will get you deep fryer meat. If you need a bobber, use an empty water/pop bottle. I prefer sucker or jumbo leeches on a bobber.

I went out and bought my first cat rod.... Ugly Stick Catfish... The guy I was talking too told me that a 4000 reel would work fine and 20lb braided test was all I needed??? Is this true???

Thanks dtro..... I can't wait.... I need something to do after my walleye season is done on LOTW and before opener and I think I might of found it....I was walking the dogs down by Black Dog today on the Bloomington side and I thought to myself I bet there are some monster cats in there. Hopefully I am right. Do u have any helpful pointers for that area that I could use since I am green as green comes..lol Anything would be helpful, as these forums are as well..... [email protected]
