ErikL
Hey guys, I'm looking to outfit my snowmobile with an auger rack. Anyone have one built or have an opinion on the best way to build one? I've seen them on the back, front, standing up, and laying down...whats the best way? Any pics or plans? Thanks Erik

Fred_Bear
Neither of these are my sled but its the exact same design as on these two. It's what everyone in our group used and was really strong. I put mine through [PoorWordUsage] with an old 35 pound model 30. Totally custom made and I actually had to cut some plastic off to get it on the sled. Took me about 6-8 hours totaly to make. the old one on the right
ErikL
Thanks for the help guys, I like the looks of the front mounted one. Now I'll have to come up with the design.
fishguyd
front horizontal mount is the way to go, any good welder can make you one at a good price, Good Luck
dirtking
I have made two rear mounted racks (made from scrap oak) - one for my electric and one for my gas auger. This one road perfectly for the 100 miles I used it on our lake trout trip this year (hit some very rough drifts) I routered grooves for the strike mater to fit in. Fred_Bear
Dirtking, what area were you fishing trout at? That's the same way my auger mount was used and we'd travel up to 25 miles one way each day. I don't know if you went through any portages but the ones we used were absolutely brutal on every bit of equipment we had.

dirtking
Lake of the Woods - Whitefish bay - we didn't have any portages but we put on 100 miles in 2 1/2 days. The dirfts were hard packed so it was hard on a guy to go too fast. the auger held on tight though

Cheeser
dirtking, where did you get the bucket holder for your seat? I've been looking for one like that for quite a while with no success...
dirtking
Google - bucket carrier snowmobile - the first hit- I have used mine for the last 2 or 3 years - My mother made one for my dad - she sewed it together and made it out of denim.
jigglestick
I like the bucket saddle bags. this is a rack I built a few years ago for my zr 580. it didn't have a rack so I needed one. when I sold the machine, I kept the rack and wouldn't ya know I found a nice cougar long track. it had a factory rack but they are barely big enough to hold a lunch box so I took it off and put my custom rack on this machine. sure glad I kept it over the years. I will add a auger holder to the side of this rack so it points straight out the back and then all I need to do is make a padded back rest. I even managed to get the hand warmers on this rack. notice the swivel hitch mounted permanently on the back of the rack. all it tok was a little iron, a torch foe heating and bending, a wirefeed welder and a chop saw...oh and one box of beer
