Lawncare Routines!

Boogaard

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a nice overall yard season long. I was wondering what everyones fertilizer and pest control routine is as far as applications in the spring summer and fall along with products they like.

Thanks for any info.

Go to the Scotts HSOforum. They have a 5 step deal on there. You don't have to use their brand, but it gives you an idea on what & when to use the product.

That's what I did last year and it seemed to work pretty good.

Oh, and water, water, water when it's hot as pi$$ out.

Good looking lawn all summer looking? It will take work or you can just make the conversion to a no-mow fescue lawn. Then forget the lawn mower, forget hoggs part "Oh, and water, water, water when it's hot...".

I think some people take pride in having that trophy lawn. I know we do. Ours has the golf course look. Like that feeling of walking barefoot in thick, soft grass. We maintain about 1 1/2 acres and the rest is in prairie grass/flowers. We use a service that includes spring dethatching, soil analysis, 5 treatments, and srinkler blow out. About $1000 to keep it looking good plus the electricity to run well pump about 4 hours per day when needed(luckily not on city water). For best results we have found mowing every 4 days is ideal but time constraints usually only allow once per week and it's still OK. I'm sure there's a lot to be saved by DIY but for us it's a time factor mainly. Our last lawn was maintained at first by one of the big name services and we were not happy with the results they produced so we did the Scott's routine and it worked well.

I go to the Soctt's site and follow what they say and like said above, you don't need to use their stuff. I also seed it about once a month. Gets it nice and plush. Also, when it's hot and you water, it's best to water early in the morning before work. If you do it late in the day a lot will evaporate in the air. Doing it late at night isn't good either. Always been told the early morning is the best time.
