Finishing My basement...

...I have cinder block walls all the way to the floor joists and am curious what the best way to have a finished wall. I don't care to frame the wall and then sheetrock, this would involve moving all water heated base heaters among other things.

Is there anything else I could do that would give the wall a more finished look?

Any tips would be much appreciated...

Thanks,

What do you want on the wall? I had the same and used 2x2 to go agains the wall (entales framing) and then put up sheetrock. I'm not sure what other options you would have. You could paint if you just wanted a quick way to do it. Framing and sheetrocking gives you the abbility to insulate it as well.

The problem with framing...I have a hydronic(sp?) heating system and have units along the walls all around the basement poured into the concrete. This would be a HUGE task to relocate in order to frame. Framing and sheetrocking would be ideal, but I am looking for an alternative.

As long as your walls are not moist, how about something as simple as bead-board paneling (4x8, the 1/4" to 3/8" stuff, that has the overlay sides to make it mesh great) stuck to the walls with construction adhesive? It would be thin, relatively cheap, easy to do, and with the bead running up, it might give it a look of having higher ceilings?... Just a though.

I have seen it advertised a little bit I have no idea on price or quality but owens corning has a basement finishing system that is panelized attaches directly to the wall and you can remove it whenever you want. Just check out their HSOforum.

The owens corning basement finish is a panel system easy to install for the do it yourselfer and it alows your plumbing to stay. This is probably going to be your best bet. It looks great and easy to remove if you have repair work or other problems.

It is very expensive. It looks and feel like an office "cube farm" wall material to me \:\) But it does go up and down easy. I looked at it at a home show once.
