Technigues in trailering at the ramp?

Some lights will be damaged, some will not. A lot of the boat trailers have submersible lights, and a lot of the nicer/newer trailers will have LEDs on them. I have experienced a couple blown lights by submerging them, so I always unplug them. When loading at night though, having submersible lights plugged in can really help you guide the boat onto the trailer.

Blowing lights is the least of your problems. Some vehicles like my 4runner have a protective fuse that at least in my case I had to tear apart half of the rear of my vehicle to find. It cost me $50 bucks as well. Needless to say I haven't done that again it's not worth it, it is way to easy to just unplug your lights.

If you have LED boat trailer lights you'll be just fine. The bulbs would blow when they were hot and you'd hit the cool lake water and shatter open. LED trailer lights are incredible and if you don't have them, forget buying new fishing lures and add them to your trailer first and foremost!

If you have surge brakes on your trailer you can't unhook your lights because the backing up lights disable your trailer brakes and allow you to back up the trailer.

True, on some of the newer trailers. If you have the 6 pin light connector this is true. If you don't it won't affect the backing up.
