Hoytmystic
Here is my situation. I will will be going to Iowa next December on a deer hunt. I live in northern Minnesota were we use rifles. So I am looking for a good slug gun setup. I have a remington 870 express. I was thinking about putting a cantilever barrel on it. I was going to get a 2-7x33 scope for it. I was going to shoot winchester supreme gold partitions in 2 3/4. What do you guys think of this setup. What barrel length should I get? What is a good scope? What is a good slug? I am up for any suggestions.ThanksKyle

anyfishwilldo
I have had good luck with the Hornady SST slugs. As far as the barrel, personally I do not like the cantilever barrels. They seem quite fraile to me. I have a Moss 835 with a slug barrel, and I really like it. I put the fiber optic sights on it and can get a really nice pattern @ 100y with the SST slugs. Tinkhamtown
Put a cantilever slug barrel on my Remington 1100 and shot Winchester Platinum Tip sabot slug 2 3/4 400 grains at 1700 FPS. Three deer can attest to the fact that it is just as deadly as a 30-06 out to 100 yards. I was so impressed with the sabot slug preformance that I bought 11 more boxes. My scope is a Bushnell Banner 1.75X-4.5X, I own 5 or 6 of these scopes and have never had any problems. I just put a Leupold III 2X-8X on a Ruger 77 mark II 30-06 though and boy are the optics super sharp and clear.
